  • Bhikkhu Jagdish Kashyap (1908–1976) was Professor of Pali and Buddhist Philosophy at BHU and a leading scholar-monk.
  • Sangharakshita studied Pali, Theravada Abhidhamma, and Logic (Mill, Bradley, Schiller) and read the Tipiṭaka in the original for the first time.
  • Kashyap allowed him use of his university library ticket, giving access to rare Buddhist texts.
  • Kashyap's parting injunction — 'Stay here and work for the good of Buddhism' — shaped Sangharakshita's subsequent life.
  • He wrote articles and poetry here and helped edit Kashyap's 'Buddhism for Everybody'.
