The Indo-Tibetan Buddhist Cultural School was founded by Dhardo Rimpoche — Dhar-mdo Tulku — one of the Tibetan lamas Sangharakshita came to know closely during his Kalimpong years. Dhardo Rimpoche was a significant figure in Sangharakshita’s spiritual life, and his school reflects the bridge between Tibetan Buddhism and the wider Indian Buddhist revival that characterised that era in Kalimpong.
The school now houses a small museum. Pilgrims visiting Kalimpong frequently include it alongside the Hermitage and Triyana Vardhana Vihara.
