  • ◆ The building was then owned by the Ockenden Venture and rented out for retreats.
  • ◆ The FWBO held two annual retreats here each year from 1968 onward — Easter and summer.
  • ◆ Sangharakshita became dangerously ill here with a fever of 104°F; he sat cross-legged through the night in an armchair, in a deeply meditative state, while Kevin Brooks sat with him.
  • ◆ Recovery began when Kevin's distress tipped the balance: 'it was as though a hair had been placed in the pan of life'.
